Lip balm recipe

Salves and balms are such rich and beautiful remedies to add to your healing handbag. They’re super straight forward to make- all you need are clean utensils and some good quality ingredients.

Begin by chosing your base oils- I like to use my medicinal flower infused oils - to add in some extra healing magic ooomph! … but if you’re just keen for some fun experimenting before whipping out your magic morsels, then the world is your oyster baby!

Next choose your flavours… do you want something zesty? flowery? spicey? Get your olfactory system working and sniff away ….essential oils that is ;)

You basically want to have a ratio of 2:4 solids to liquids
For example….

Solid:
10g beeswax
10g shea butter

Liquid:
20g Sweet Almond oil
20g olive oil

Essential oils of your choice! ..when choosing essential oils, remember that our lips are sensitive little creatures.. be aware of the action of the essential oils (are they cooling/warming/spicey/numbing?) and you only need a little. 10 drops total most.

Place all ingredients (except essential oils) in a clean, sterilized and DRY saucepan over a double boiler. Keep on a gentle steady heat.
Once melted, take off the heat and add in your essential oils. You might also like to add in some Vitamin E oil.
Mix it all in well and then pour into little tubs or tubes and cap and label.

Lip balms are so great to have on hand.. and they also make super great pressies!
Have fun!
